STEM ACTIVITY KITS + GUIDES
These kits are available at Camp Tongawood:
Daisy Goldie Blox Number Available: 2 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $10 Earn a badge (or two, or three) with this kit of Goldie Blox materials. There are enough sets for 16 girls working in pairs. To use this kit, simply follow the curriculum in the Volunteer Toolkit for each badge (Board Game Design Challenge, Roller Coaster Design Challenge, and Model Car Design Challenge). No extra materials needed. Brownie Goldie Blox Number Available: 2 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $10 Earn a badge (or two, or three) with this kit of Goldie Blox materials. There are enough sets for 16 girls working in pairs. To use this kit, simply follow the curriculum in the Volunteer Toolkit for each badge (Board Game Design Challenge, Roller Coaster Design Challenge, and Model Car Design Challenge). No extra materials needed. Daisy/Brownie/Junior Goldie Blox Number Available: 2 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $10 Have you earned your Design Challenge badge(s) and want to do more with Goldie Blox? This Craftstruction kit may be for you! No extra materials needed. Slime Kit (All levels) Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 Who doesn’t love making slime? This kit contains everything you need for slime (bowls, Borax, spatulas, funnels, measuring tools) – you just need to bring the rest of the slime ingredients. Use one of our slime recipes in the activity guide, or bring your own recipes to try out! Borax is the only “ingredient” provided – please plan to bring all of the other slime ingredients with you. Safety Glasses (All levels) Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $4 Are you doing something that may splash or explode? Sounds like fun – but we need to keep everyone safe while experimenting! In this kit you’ll find youth and adult sized goggles (best for liquids) and glasses. Suspend Games (All levels) Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 Does your troop appreciate challenges? Suspend games are a great way to work as a team to try to suspend all of the pieces from the game stand – one wrong move and everything may come toppling down. Three game sets are included in the kit, so up to 12 girls can easily play at once. No extra materials needed. Daisy/Brownie Math Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 It’s never too early to learn about math and money! This kit contains pretend money, an ATM machine, dice and tangrams. Use the money and ATM to work on a financial literacy badge, or practice for cookie booths. Tangrams are a great “game” to practice spatial reasoning and learn more about geometric shapes. And with dice, there are lots of ideas for quick math games you can use to help girls add and subtract quickly. This kit is meant for groups of 12 or smaller. No extra materials needed. Junior-Ambassador Math Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 Math can be more than learning multiplication tables! Use this kit to have some fun with numbers – we’ve included tangrams (great puzzles for geometry), and the games Prime Climb and 3 Sticks. This kit is meant for groups of 10 or smaller. No extra materials needed. Dry Erase Boards (All levels) Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $4 This kit contains mini white boards, dry erase markers and erasers. You can use this if your group is keeping track of data, recording responses, or making a best guess before trying out a new plan. If you’re taking them outside, they aren’t going to blow away like a sheet of paper, and hopefully lots of Girl Scouts will be able to use them throughout the year! No extra materials needed. GOOBI Kit (All levels) Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 This kit contains mini white boards, dry erase markers and erasers. Newspaper Connectors (All levels) Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 These joints and tubes are just missing some rolled up newspapers! Bring the newspaper, and design your structure then watch it come to life as you use the connectors and joints to create a 3-dimensional structure. This kit would be perfect if your troop has already done some engineering projects and wants to try building with unfamiliar materials. Or, set up an engineering day at camp, and use this in a rotation station. There are enough materials for 8 people. Bring your own newspaper. Brownie-Cadette Catapult Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 This kit will have cotton balls flying through the air in no time! Use craft sticks and rubber bands to design your best catapult. You can expand this activity to test your hypotheses, collect data, as well as hone your engineering skills to create catapults meet a variety of goals. There are enough materials for 12 people. No extra materials needed. Junior-Ambassador Green Snap Circuits Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 Learn about energy sources and how to “think green”. Have fun learning about environmentally friendly energy. There are several activities to choose from – wind, solar, tidal, geothermal, etc. – you can spend time working through one or more of these activities using fun materials to “snap” the circuits together! Three kits are included, so there are enough materials for 9-12 girls to work in groups of 3 or 4. No extra materials required, but if using these away from power sources, you will need to provide AA batteries. Brownie-Ambassador Snap Circuits Number Available: 1 Checkout Period: 1 day Cost: $6 Using these cool materials that snap together, create various circuitry projects (300 project ideas included!) like a radio announcer or a motion detector! You’ll be able to identify where the breaks in the circuit are by looking at your work on the board, and figure out how to make everything work. There are three kits included, so there are enough materials for 9-12 girls working in groups of 3 or 4. No extra materials required, but if using these away from power sources, you will need to provide AA batteries. |
